Blocking E-Mail in GroupWise 6.5 Client

As you know, unwanted E-mail is a real nuisance and can lead to low productivity and an increased risk of computer virus infections. Unfortunately, the district’s spam filter cannot block all of the unsolicited E-mails blasted across the Internet every day by spammers and other nare-do-wells. In fact, spammers are very clever and will spoof E-mail messages to make them appear like they are arriving from legitimate senders with the intention of tricking you into opening potentially malicious messages. Consequently, we rely on you to help us in our battle against the spammers by deleting unwanted E-mail from your personal inbox. Is this inconvenient? Absolutely! But there is a way you can automate some of this by using the block list available in the GroupWise client. You can also use rules in the GroupWise client to block unsolicited E-mail. Remember, the best protection and easiest way to deal with spam is to never open a message from someone you don’t know— just delete it.

   
   
1. E-mail delivered to you from outside of the district usually shows up in your inbox with quotation marks around the Sender’s name. E-mail with quotes around the sender's address.
   
2. To block messages from an outside sender who is spamming you, right-click on the envelope, choose “Junk Mail” and then “Block sender... ” Right-clicking to block the sender...
   
3. Next, tell GroupWise how to handle all future E-mail from this entity. In this example, choosing “Block any e-mail from this internet domain” would block all future messages from aexp.com. Block Sender dialog box with radio buttons.
   
4. Additionally, you can increase control and management of your GroupWise block list and other junk mail filters by right-clicking on E-mail and choosing “Junk Mail Handling...” Right-clicking to access Junk Mail Handling...

A)Under the “Settings” tab, make sure the “Enable Block List” box is checked under “Blocked Mail.”

B) Also, if you want to enable junk mail features such as the “Junk List” check the “Enable Junk List” box.

C) To see or remove entries in your block list, click on the “Block List” tab.

6. From the “Block List” tab you can add new addresses or domains to block, edit the current addresses in your block list, or delete address from your block list. Managing lists under Block List tab.
